Blockchain Insurance Inc. was built out of necessity, not theory.
For years, as the longest-running and largest digital asset industry association in Canada, the Canadian Bitcoin Consortium heard the same challenge from its members: access to insurance was not just difficult, it was often unattainable. Traditional insurers struggled to understand the sector, premiums were frequently unreasonable, and coverage was narrow or insufficient to meet regulatory and commercial requirements. The idea to create a better solution began more than four years ago through direct engagement with industry and the Alberta government, including discussions with the Minister of Finance, recognizing that advocacy alone would not solve the problem.
What followed was a four-year commitment to building something credible and durable.
Working closely with industry participants, brokers, and regulators, we developed and tailored insurance structures grounded in traditional insurance principles but designed for modern, emerging businesses. That work ultimately led to full licensing and the launch of Blockchain Insurance Inc., an association-based captive established by Consortium members to insure collective risks. Our purpose is simple: to provide compliant, well-structured insurance that actually works for our members, supports long-term growth, and brings clarity, trust, and confidence to an industry that has long been underserved.
Connected to the Canadian Bitcoin Consortium
Blockchain Insurance Inc. was established by members of the Canadian Bitcoin Consortium, Canada’s longest-running and leading national industry association for digital assets. While Consortium membership is required to qualify for coverage, we encourage organizations to connect with us first to explore whether our insurance solutions are the right fit before making any commitment. This also offers an opportunity to learn more about the Consortium’s work in advancing a responsible, well-regulated digital asset industry in Canada through engagement with industry, government, and regulators.
